Built in the late 1800s during America’s textile boom, the silk mill located on New Holland’s main street was funded by the community with the specific goal of creating new jobs in the town.
For nearly a century it did just that, weathering the Great Depression, manufacturing silk parachutes for troops in World War II, and helping to establish America’s emerging middle class in the 1950s and 60s.
Unfortunately, the end of the 20th century saw the silk mill close its doors for good, knocked out in 1990 by the one-two punch of advancing technology and foreign competition.
After sitting empty for almost 25 years and falling into a tragic state of disrepair, the 150,000 sq. ft. building finally underwent a massive redevelopment project in 2018, salvaging what was left of the silk mill’s history. Now, reinvented as a mixed-use property, it’s ready to serve the New Holland community for another hundred years.
The redesign saw what remained of the original mill transformed into two 20,000+ sq. ft. buildings offering offices for commercial lease along with a beautifully renovated event venue.
Known as The Silk Mill on Main, both the venue’s name and industrial-inspired design are a tribute to the building’s historic roots. With room to seat 224, parking for 150, and an onsite warming kitchen, this chic and inviting space is the perfect backdrop for your next memorable event!
